sfx fantasy full novel
I've been busy rewriting books 1, 2 and 3 to compile as a single 3 part novel to sell at Lulu. Changing the style, show don't tell and working on bringing each character to life.
I realized that writing isn't as easy as it seems. The characters have to come to life with their words and actions, each has a different personality. The stories have to be shown and not told in long narrative passages. THe final outcome is so different from the original story I published, but a whole lot better.
I included a very raunchy love making scene at the end of the complete novel as it is essential as the lead in to the next story I have to tell. Very explicit as I'll follow the rule show don't tell all the way to the end. Read that a pet peeve of readers of the sci-fi fantasy genre is that the authors always chicken out when it comes to the sex scenes. I did plenty of reading up and research on the web to get those scenes done right as well.. show don't tell applies even to the intimate scenes. No chickening out.. though I nearly did give up after spending 2 days reading and trying to write 1 kissing scene with nothing to show for it. I gave up and told my hubby about it. He is the better writer and dictated a scene to me in just 5 minute. I loved it so much I plugged it in word for word (reordering sentences so it flows properly) into the part 1.
I like book 3 best. My favourite is the chapter on the asylum. Actually, the story in part 3 allows me to pursue plenty of what if scenarios. Seems like my favourite chapter features the least developed of the minor characters, Bob.
This story's not wrapped up complete yet but the next story is already taking shape. It seems really exciting. In fact, I already have the rough drafts of the next story, different scenes for different parts of the story, though that will be done much later.
I thought of two possible openings for the next story. the first opening is a lighthearted one but the second which really grips me begins with a suicide scene. Might be too dark an opening but the shock factor is there. I love working on the shock factor.
Need to polish up my current novel first.
Don't think I can make money from this though. Fiction is hard to sell. Especially via self publishing and sci-fi fantasy is one of the toughest to push.
