different worlds

I started book 6 with the warriors in a different world. The book comes to life right away when the warriors are in their element, in a strange world, stuck in battle against supernatural foes. I wrote that using 3rd party omniscient view and just those 2 pages are more interesting than the 1st party limited views in books 4 and 5.

Maybe I'll rewrite books 4 and 5 using 3rd party POV as well. 1st party limited is just too restrictive. I can't write the most exciting bits because the POV character is not able to witness the things that happen then.

From the way things are going, this might well be a long series. The scenes I'm itching to write can't happen until at least book 12, if I write according to chronological order. In between, so many things would happen, more than enough to fill 8 books. With more characters surfacing and the core family growing, things only get better as the relationships get more... interesting..

on a writing binge

Haven't posted for a while. I've been busy completing the 1st draft for book 5. It was tougher to write as it was from the point of view of Tess, a new character introduced in book 4. I kept writing myself into a corner. Each time, there really seemed like there was no way out for Tess. Even the ending wasn't what I had in mind initially.

Guess that's the way stories go. Characters come to life, stories come to life and it gets interesting as a writer to watch what happens next - how the characters drive the story.

The end of book 5 begs for a book 6. I'll probably use 3rd person omniscient view as this would require the story to be seen from the point of views of several characters.

Last night, I picked up my draft of book 4 to work on the final draft. I was stuck. That book is written in a diary form. First person is limiting enough. Diary form might be too ambitious a project at the moment.

I think I'll finish all the first drafts first before going back to work on book 4. Need to see that manuscript with a fresh mindset. Might read a few books written in diary form to get the feel of that style. Bridget Jones Diary comes to mind.
